This unit contains 3 labs, two reading passages, a writing prompt, and vocabulary activity in the following formats:a literature based reading passage and expository reading passage designed to interest and instruct the students on the concept s of how water changes phases of matter and the water cycle. This unit also includes three hands on activities or labs formatted to instruct the science concept as well as the scientific process to students. These labs guide students to explore in lab #1: water changing from a solid to a liquid and back; lab # 1: from a liquid to a gas and back (done as a teacher demonstration) and Lab #3 putting all together in the water cycle. A vocabulary crossword is included along with an expository writing prompt. Each reading passage and lab contains questions designed for both recall and application of what they have learned. I have used these activities with the teachers and students at the school where I run the science department with success. Supports differentiated learning. This unit was written by me for the teachers in my school and has been used sucessfully with no reported problems. Third and fourth grade has found it particularly useful due to the incorporated reading and writing aspect of the unit. This unit will take about two weeks to complete is used only during science time.
