Product Description
This is a free sample of Readers' Theatre for Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis.

This is NOT a play based on the novel. Rather, it is an activity where students use the novel to act out the character roles. The purpose behind Readers’ Theatre is to improve student fluency when reading aloud, and to foster interest in the novel. Both speaking and listening skills are developed with this activity. The teacher takes the role of narrator to enable him or her to stop periodically for dramatic pauses and to ask comprehension questions. Students are given roles from the characters in the novel. The teacher will read all of the words without dialogue in the chapter. Students will read the dialogue of the characters they are assigned.

The following Speaking and Listening Standards are covered with this activity:

Speaking and Listening SL.1A, SL.1B, SL.1C, SL.1D, SL.2, SL.3, SL.4, SL.5, SL.6
