The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963 Vocabulary Study is a 19-page resource that begins with an alphabetical listing of eighty vocabulary words taken from the full novel text along with their page number(s).
Next is a series of chapter-by-chapter word lists with definitions that present the targeted vocabulary words in story order and identify their location by page number. Each word list is coupled with companion student worksheets that require interpretive use of a dictionary. The pages are designed to be used BEFORE reading The Watsons so that students will have some knowledge of the words when they encounter them again in story context.
The next portion includes a word usage activity.
Finally are two sections with twenty-five items each that require identification and/or intrepretations of FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE lifted from The Watsons. These pages can be used as a teching tool, a review, or a quiz.
