This chapter guide is designed to get students to slow down, pay attention, and really interpret the text. Questions get kids thinking on multiple levels. Some tasks require them to briefly re-tell stories in their own words, while other questions require them to make inferences, describe tone and atmosphere, and analyze writing for specific style. Students are also periodically asked to write one-page reflections on what they have learned, how the book makes them feel, and what messages or lessons are being taught.
Each worksheet covers 2 or 3 chapters and should take most students about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete. These are great for either in class work or homework. They are also great for substitute teachers because they are very hands-off.
Feel free to alter or modify this chapter guide to best fit the needs of your students and your classroom.
