This product is perfect for a culminating activity after reading the novel The Westing Game. I use a Socratic Discussion format to increase the rigor in the classroom and get my students engaged in their learning. I have created all of the guidelines and questions to ensure a worthwhile study on the themes and main ideas of The Westing Game.
This product includes:
-Student Handout: This explains to students (and you) what a Socratic discussion is, guidelines they should follow, how to prepare for the discussion, questions starters to use during the discussion, and other notes
Question Handout: Here, I have chosen 4 main subjects from The Westing Game (Appearance, Identity, Lies and Family) and have created questions that are scaffolded based on critical thinking. Have students begin with question one, then build upon their basic knowledge until reaching question four! Have students answer all questions, or just become experts on one section - everything is divided for you!
Teacher Guide: I added this to give the specific Common Core standards met with this product, and how the students will demonstrate mastery of the standard. I also include a few tips I have gathered after doing Socratic Discussions in my classroom.
