The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is a fabulous mystery to use to help students make inferences, draw conclusions, and analyze characters.
This is an 8-week study, with students reading 3 to 4 chapters each week. For each week, students have a note page to focus on character. They identify something important from those chapters dealing with each of the 16 characters--this helps the students not only keep track of who is who in the story, but to point out clues and link events together. Each section also comes with four questions encouraging students to think critically about the events and try to solve the many mysteries presented in the narrative.
