The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman
The Whipping Boy Thinking Skills and Graphic Organizers for Writing
This thirty-page resource for teaching Sid Fleischman's 1987 Newbery Medal Winner has two components.
The Whipping Boy Thinking Skills
The THINK, WRITE, CREATE section offers a series of open-ended activities based on the higher level thinking skills of Bloom's Taxonomy. The items are organized as a section of chapter-by-chapter activities and a separate group of whole-book challenges. Difficulty levels are varied to accommodate the needs of individual students including the gifted. Cross-curricula connections and vocabulary building are targeted in some of these activities.
The Whipping Boy Graphic Organizers for Writing
The second component is a group of seven GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS that spring from a specific story event, idea, or character. Each topic offers opportunity for improving and polishing composition skills.
A suggested grading rubric and possible responses for some of the researchable questions are included.
