Students read The White Man's Burden, answer 10 questions, analyze 10 images, and complete a graphic organizer relating the White Man's Burden to religion, economics, imperialism, nationalism, racism, and social Darwinism. For the image analysis, students pick 10 of 14 images and respond to 7 prompts/tasks. The answers are included where appropriate and this would work for a sub!
Sample questions include:

--Does Kipling seem to imply the road ahead will be easy or hard? Explain your answer.
--Identify the tone or slant to the poem. Cite evidence from the text to support your answer.
--Explain in what ways someone from 1899 would support this poem and share its sentiments, and in what ways someone would disagree with it.
--Define the following terms or explain the meaning of the following phrases.
