This is a ready-to-use, 48 page packet for teachers whose 4th-7th grade students are reading The Whites of their Eyes, the third book in the Benjamin Pratt and the Keepers of the School series written by Andrew Clements. The major component in this packet is the master for creating a 25 page student booklet (yes, an answer key is also included!) which is designed to provide the student with a weekly workbook/guide that consists of the reading assignment for the week along with questions and activities to be independently completed during the week, either at home or in the classroom. Ideally, the assignment will be discussed and reviewed in a weekly literature circle setting (some classes might call this a book club meeting, novel study group, or a reading group) with the teacher, a classroom aide, a parent, or a student leader. The student booklet can be used with small groups of students who have chosen to read this particular book or with an entire class where all students are reading the same book.
Skills addressed in the student booklet are aligned with common core standards for both reading and writing (see highlighted details on next few pages). They include vocabulary, comprehension, clarifying, inferring, determining character traits, summarizing and working with similes, onomatopoeia, metaphors, homophones, and homographs. Students are given opportunities to write both long and short responses, draw creatively, complete a crossword puzzle, and do individual research.
NOTE:I also have created reading workbooks for the other four books in this series: Fear Itself
, We The Children
, In Harm's Way
, and We Hold These Truths

Benjamin Pratt and The Keepers of the School, Book 3:
The Whites of Their Eyes…in a Nutshell:
Andrew Clements continues his Keepers of the School series with another story that is full of suspense. Sixth graders Ben and Jill are joined by their brilliant but pushy friend, Robert, as they work to outwit that sly custodian, Mr. Lyman who is obviously a skilled spy. They are racing the clock as they try to solve the strange clues found in The Safeguards. As soon as one clue is solved, another one presents itself….and even running into sudden wealth can’t change that!
Appropriate for students in grades 4-7.
