This 14 page Word document is a synopsis of the plot of the novel in "Fill in the blanks" format. It is divided into individual chapter summaries, each of which has a word bank to assist students.
I find this a very useful approach with weaker students (who struggle to write their own summaries). It's a good way to ensure that all students know what has happened before moving on to the next part of the novel. Alternatively, you could use it as an aid to revision, when you have finished the novel. In this case, it suits both strong and weak students. The solution, which is included, provides a summary of the novel without the student activity.
This is an active learning task. It forces students to think while they're working to complete it. You could redact the word banks to make the activity more challenging.
Students, particularly weak and EAL students, get a great sense of achievement from this activity.
There are 24 pages in total. The student exercise consists of 14 pages. The remaining pages contain the solution.
Download the preview file to see the assignment (and solution) for chapters 1 and 2. Even if you don't purchase this product, it will give you a useful exercise with which to start your study of the novel.
