Students can use this graphic organizer to compare and contrast 5 important scenes from the book to the movie.
1. How to recognize a witch
2. Meeting the Grand High Witch
3. Bruno comes to collect
4. "Frizzled like a Fritter"
It starts out with:
Have you ever read a book and visualized the characters and events one way, then watched a movie on the same story and the characters and events were NOT what you visualized? Perhaps the events were changed in the movie or the characters looked differently than how the book described them?
Throughout the story, The Witches, you visualized the characters and the events happening. Now, you are going to get a chance to see how a movie producer visualized this story. Will his interpretation of the movie be like the “movie in your mind”? Will it be different? Will he change parts of the story?
There’s only one way to find out!
While you are watching the movie scenes, pay attention to the details. See if you can spot the similarities and differences between the text and the visual representation (the movie).
Learning Goals for this activity:
I CAN make connections between the text of a story and a visual representation of text.
I CAN compare and contrast the visual representation to the text.
