This is an imaginative narrative writing activity that I have used with second through fifth grade. With the younger students, I used it as an extension activity after reading "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day." We did most of the writing as a whole group. With my older students, they loved hearing the classic story read aloud to them. Then I challenged them to use the same story structure, but change the details to lucky things happening instead of terrible things.
