The Wonderful World of Math was designed to help teach universal life skills and wherever possible, align with the Essential Elements for Special Education Students as part of the Common Core Standards. There are over 200 reproducible worksheets and activities that will teach cross-content curriculum, vocabulary, reading, writing, oral skills, abstract thinking in addition to math skills.
There are six chapters in The Wonderful World of Math: Charts and Graphs, Let’s Go Shopping, Learning Percents, Problem Solving, Reading Schedules and Time to Measure. Each chapter focuses on practical life skills that students will need throughout their lives. Skills taught using this book are: reading bus schedules, adding and subtracting money, budgeting, figuring out the sale price of an item, calculating how much the sales tax will be, experimenting to find out the measurement equivalence in cooking, learning how to solve practical word problems and much, much more.
The worksheets in each chapter start out by introducing a basic skill and progressing to more complex problems as the students learn and practice each new skill. These new skills are broken down into simple steps that allow the student to grasp each new topic with ease. Additional worksheets are included to allow the students to be able to create their own activities. These activities will help the students to practice applying their new skills to meaningful life situations by using their own community specific resources. This will make the experience even more valuable and meaningful for the student.
