Pg. 3-5 Vocabulary in Context – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid lines and cut on the dotted lines – illustrate and write each vocab word in a sentence
Pg.6 Use It! – use your vocabulary words in a paragraph/story to show their meaning
Pg. 7-8 Spelling Art – roll the dice to see what color to write your spelling word – write each spelling word four times
Pg. 9-11 My Comprehension Flip It! – copy pages A and B back to back, fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines, fill out
Pg. 12-14 Theme – copy pages A and B back to back – fold on the solid line and cut on the dotted lines – see example – fill in the information and illustrate
Pg. 15 Summarize – after you find the theme it is time to summarize the story
Pg. 16-25 Comparative and superlative Adjectives and Adverbs – copy the patterns onto the appropriate colored construction paper – fold a large piece of construction paper horizontally so that it creates doors – put the hamster together and place it on top – add the paws to the front door – add all the papers on the front and inside – see example – write three adjectives and three adverbs – use them in two sentences to show the comparative and the superlative forms – line them up as shown in the example
Pg. 26 Oh no! Guess what stopped working? – write about an appliance in your house that might break – How would you survive without it?
Pg. 27 T.V. Time Out – keep track of how many minutes/hours of T.V. you watch in a week – during the second week put an “X” in a box every time you do not watch T.V. – write what you did instead
Pg. 28-34 The day I turned off the T.V. – a fun writing and craft activity – copy off the large rectangle onto brown construction paper and cut out – copy all the other patterns onto the appropriate colored construction paper – glue the knobs together and add them and the speaker screen to the right side of the T.V. – put your writing pages between the black rectangular boxes and staple together – glue the back of the black paper onto the brown T.V. – add straws for antennas – I liked the stripes, however you can wrap them in foil – I attached these with tape to the back of the T.V. – see example - write about what you would do or what you could accomplish without spending your time watching television and how this would have an affect on you and your family
Pg. 35 Multiple Meaning Words! – a foldable book – hot dog fold then hamburger fold it – choose three words that have multiple meanings – write each word in the top center box, write two sentences to show the different meanings of the word – illustrate each sentence
