Students analyze the poem, The Worm, and compare it to the novel, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. There are extension activities to go along with Chapter 10, where Brian eats a turtle egg. The activities and questions make the connection between the poem, the novel, and the students' life. It uses critical thinking by relating their lives along with coming up with their own criteria for eating a tasty worm or raw insect pretending they're our Top Chef judges.
