On the morning of Dec 17, 1903 two bicycle repairmen, Orville and Wilbur Wright, did what no one in human history could do, they flew. Here is their story.
A stiff cold wind blew over the biting sands of Kitty Hawk, NC as Orville and Wilbur emerged in dapper suits shivering but determined to make history. Orville hung out the signal flag to alert the locals that there would be flying today, or at least the attempt at it. The locals, mostly fishermen, would help them maneuver their flying machine onto the awaiting dunes. It sat atop a wooden rail laid out on the sand to help it pick up speed off the soft terrain.
Orville and Wilbur flipped a coin to see who would go first. Orville won the toss. He would have to stay lying down on top of and parallel to the body of the plane. At the same time he would have to pull ropes to warp the wing for control if he got ............
