***Important! From now until the end of June, get my year-long writing packet for half the price. Hurry, this price won't last for long.
In my 1st grade classroom, I was struggling to find engaging writing center activities for each week. This packet contains activities for each month to support narrative, explanatory and expository writing instruction as well as some spelling practice. I created this packet to be used to support a writing center, but the activities can also be used as whole group or small group activities. I have designed the activities to be highly engaging but at the same time quite easy for students to complete and minimal teacher-time required to either set up or explain. Included in this packet…
Picture This - a set of picture cards for each month
Each card lists the topic and then a word bank of 5 or more related words. These cards are a great way for your students to work on 3-part stories.
Write the Room - a set of picture cards for each month to hang around the room.
Kids will hunt for cards and record them filling in the missing sounds. The first set of cards begin with the pictures labeled and then throughout the year sounds are left off and students become responsible for filling in the missing sounds. The sounds left off increase in difficulty throughout the year.
How To… - resources include picture card prompts and spinners to help students select a topic and compete a 4-step explanatory piece.
I am an EXPERT on… - a set of monthly picture cards as well as an extra set of animal cards designed to help students select a topic and either write about what they know or research the prompt and then write about it.
Finally, I have included writing paper options for each activity as well as some options that can be used for multiple uses. I hope this packet will help your young writers sharpen their skills and have fun at the same time.
