This presentation breaks down the writer's voice in a way that my students can truly understand. I teach seventh and eighth grade, but much of this can work for high-school students. I explain these choices and then show how they come together to make his or her style. The presentation focuses on the following: narrative tone; word choice; words with multiple meanings; denotation and connotation; dialogue; figurative language; and imagery. Each term is defined and then has an example, further making these important terms come alive for students. For my classes, this has been a helpful tool that opens up some lively discussions.
