This short script on the writing process is a fun review for students. The script is written for several solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. The Super Heroes context makes this script extraordinarily popular because the students create gestures and sound effects for characters like “Brainstormer” and “Revision Girl.” (Note--You should feel free to edit the script and character names if aspects of the writing process identified in this script are not the precise ones you want to emphasize.)
Reading and rehearsing the script reinforces the steps in the writing process while also increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. Rosalind Flynn offers this Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script—one of many she has created with students and teachers across the United States.
