This resource is a printable step by step instructional practice guide for students on answering constructed response questions using "The Writing R.A.T.S." method.
In the past, I saw students cringe when the words written response, finding examples, and citing evidence were mentioned in class. Therefore, "The Writing R.A.T.S. strategy was born. R stands for Restate, A for Answer, T for Track Down examples (1,2,3), and S for summarize.
I also teach my students how to draw a simple, graphic organizer to use with "The Writing R.A.T.S. ", write a final copy, and do a "Check, Check, and Check" to help with editing and revising their response.
