I have used this writing activity for many years. Each week students were asked to summarize their week and write it in the block. Every week of the month they wrote a short summary in a different block. Sometimes if we did a special art activity I might have them glue it to the back of the page once the art was taken down from display. At the end of the school year, the students had a wonderful keepsake of their year. These booklets helped students feel better that were unable to purchase a yearbook. It is also a wonderful assessment of a student’s writing from the beginning of the year to the end. I punched holes in the pages and put them in a 3 prong folder. I gave the students a folder of the entire year all at one time. You can encourage students to write over the summer months, too. The images were made so that the designs are not specific to a particular month or season. Parents loved receiving this booklet at the end of the year. It’s all possible with just a simple weekly routine which I usually saved for Friday.
