This current event was taken from the Internet in February 2016; but it will be current for many years because it is about two pregnant women in Brazil who may have the Zika virus. This article has 21 comprehension questions aimed at helping your class understand the complexities of this world problem. This article compares the lives of the well to do and the extremely poor in Brazil. It will introduce your students to the problems of this virus and the mosquito that causes it. This article also can generate discussion in your classroom contrasting living in the United States with living in Latin America. Hopefully, seeing this contrast will instill love and pride in our country and make your students realize how fortunate Americans are- even with all our problems. Sixteen vocabulary words are introduced and taught in this package. This product comes with eight Internet Activities designed to make your students more knowledgeable about the Zika virus. My current event products are intended to turn your class on to what is happening in the news while improving their comprehension skills and vocabulary skills at the same time. A homework activity is included to encourage your students to continue to explore this urgent problem in the news.
