This lesson plan is designed to teach students to identify the /ou/ sound in spoken words through the use of language and story telling. This lesson plan contains the objectives of: The student will identify the /ou/ sound in spoken words, The student will identify the “ow” digraph in written words, The student will relate the /ou/ sound to the “ow” digraph, The student will create words that have the /ou/ sound and the “ow” digraph, The student will identify the main characters in a story, The student will summarize a story, The student will determine the problem and solution in a story, The student will evaluate the effectiveness of a solution to a problem in a story, The student will utilize what is taught in phonics into his writing, The student will rewrite the end of a story by writing an alternative ending. The lesson plan also contains essential questions, assessment methods, standards, materials, and the procedure for the attention getter, summary directive, group instruction/demonstration, guided practice, independent practice, assessment, and closure.
