This is a step by step process to help students discover the present simple.
I have been using this to help my students learn the present simple tense. It could be done individually or collaboratively. The learners are encouraged to notice, ask questions, make hypotheses, and test them. The teacher remains as a guide on the side and a consciousness-raiser.
It is easier to learn when the students take responsibility of their own learning. In this lesson students:
1. Read a text and answer a comprehension questions (noticing)
2. Identify the verbs in their answers to the comprehension questions (consciousness-raising).
3. classify the forms of the present simple in a table (practice)
4. write an email to a friend about their daily routines (free production)
