PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This product consists of a 15 minute illustrated talk on video dealing with Jane Austen as a voice of her time.

It serves to defend her against critics who disapproved of her confined world view. The talk offers a way to understand her values, her attitude to society and her response to the events of her time as they are reflected in her work.

There are references to some of her other novels but the main focus for examples is 'Persuasion' which is presented as a novel which looks forward to a new world order with Frederick Wentworth, the meritocrat, at its heart.

Using this resource will be an enjoyable way of stimulating debate and discussion about the importance of Jane Austen's fiction while also providing insights into the characters and themes of 'Persuasion' as well as her other novels.
