Thematic Unit - Inspired by the book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin. By: Laura Numeroff.
PERFECT FOR YOUR SUB-TUB as a ONE DAY UNIT or can be used in your plans over the course of several days.
This unit includes the following:
Whole Group for Small Group Muffin Math
- Use the all color Place Setting as a Math Mats. Print out class sets of the muffins for manipulatives.
Print out the Number Sentence Cards. For group sets print out on cardstock, laminate and cut out. Students will work the addition and subtraction number sentences by placing the muffins on the plate.
Muffin Number Cards:
Place number cards under the document camera. Call volunteers to count the muffins and circle the correct corresponding number with a dry erase marker. Teach students to cross out muffins as they count. After showing how it's done place these cards in a Math Center.
Muffin Number Correspondence Assessment:
Use this assessment following the Number Cards activity to assess students.
Cause and Effect Cut and Paste:
After reading the story review and retell the story. Discuss cause and effect. Then use this cut and paste to assess students understanding. Answer key included.
Assess student understanding of the story with this multiple choice comprehension test. Answer key included.
Moose Fact Booklet:
This 8-page booklet makes a great Science and/or Social Studies activity. I use online BrainPop to discuss moose habitats and other facts. Students love to cut, staple, read and color their own fact booklet.
The final page of this booklet comes in two levels for easy differentiation.
