Understanding theme can be tricky, which is why i love implementing these centers/activities with my class. This packet allows students to take theme a step deeper by completing some open-ended activities.
This packet includes 4 centers/activities:
Activity 1- Students play "Act It Out", which is where a group of 4 tries to guess the theme each student acts out. A recording sheet has been included, which requires students to write down the theme their classmate is acting out, and they must write a short summary supporting their reasoning.
Activity 2- Students read a book and then create a theme postcard. Students are writing a postcard to a character in the book explaining the theme.
Activity 3- I created something called a "Z Organizer", which is where students identify different story parts, which lead to the theme of the story. I like using this organizer because it reviews basic plot terms.
Activity 4- Students will roll a dice and the number they get correlates to the green dice on the handout. For instance, if they roll a 1, they will create a story that teaches a lesson on integrity.
