This is my assessment for RL7.2. It is to be used with any short literary text or possibly poem.
I use a cold text for the actual assessment, but use this handout through the week as we practice with theme so students are familiar with the metacognitive steps for finding theme and the format of the test. They then justify their answer by showing how the theme was formed over the course of the text by the literary elements.
It reinforces RL7.3 because it asks students to FIRST analyze the literary elements present in the text in order to determine the theme after choosing the subject of the text and the focus of the text.
