The "Theme Analysis Wheel" is a guided worksheet designed to help students analyze the literary elements in a written work. Each "arm" of the wheel signifies a different literary element, and they all point toward the overarching theme, in the center of the "wheel." Once students fill out each portion of the wheel, they are directed to write out their analysis in paragraph form on the back of the paper.
This graphic organizer was essential to my high school English classroom. It provided students with an organized method of conducting a deep-level analysis, and gave them space to write out their thoughts completely and thoroughly. In addition, its simple, two-page format made it easy to grade and keep in files for parent-teacher conferences and administration.
It's a great assignment that can be used to compliment a wide-variety of English projects, and even serves as an assessment tool or a versatile "oops" assignment if you need filler for extra space in a class period.
