My students just love working on this theme activity. I created this center to be used to reinforce themes in literature. After teaching lessons on common themes in literature, students can use their knowledge of popular children's movies to determine the overall theme of the movie!
This activity can be used as a game with the whole class, or as a center.
Themes category examples are:
Directions for the teacher (included in materials):
1- cut out the header cards and keep them separate from the movie cards.
2-cut out the movie cards (keep set together)
3- give the group of students (or center) one copy of the header cards and one copy of the movie cards.
4- Instruct students to determine the theme of the movie and place it in the appropriate theme category. Encourage students to use evidence from the movie to back-up the category.
Example: Finding Nemo might be placed under "Family/Friendship" because Nemo's dad goes a long way to save his son.
