Teach the theme of any text using this Theme Chart as a scaffolding tool to make your student's thinking visible as they process literary texts. Take your students from reading a text to fully analyzing it! Start with an example text to analyze together. A completed example from one of Aesop's Fables is included in this product. Here is the version of Aesop's "The Ants and the Grasshopper" text I used to create the example.
From there teach students to analyze a literary text by finding key details from the text and citing evidence from the text on their own. This graphic organizer works with both direct quotes and paraphrase from the original source. Finally, students use the details from their chart as a plan and write a more polished paragraph which includes a theme statement to discuss their analysis of texts read in class.
This is a great tool for introducing, re-teaching, or practicing theme. Use once, or repeatedly for continued practice.
