Theme seems to be one of the most difficult story elements for students to grasp. By using this graphic organizer students can "discover" the theme of any literary text they are reading.
Prior to using this organizer teach that theme = the underlying ideas, messages, morals, or lessons that are not clearly stated within the text. It’s what the author wants us to think about long after the reading is done!
Authors give us “clues” through patterns of objects, problems, challenges, and characters reactions to challenges. We use the “clues” to make inferences about theme.
This organizer will help keep track of story elements and help students make inferences about the theme of the story.
