Use this project to have students show their understanding of parts of a map at the end of a geography unit. Students will pick a theme that their island will be based on. The teacher example is ice cream, this will allow you to demonstrate each step of the project as your class completes it. The following elements are included.
My Own Island Brain Storming Sheet – Allows students to brain storm theme ideas as well as all the elements required on the map
Map Sketch – A rough draft worksheet for students to create their island and check off requirements. Including the geography acronym BOLTS ( Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale)
Map Questions- Students will write 6 questions and provide a key for other students to answer about their completed map.
Rubric- A clear rubric for grading by both teacher and student.
