Product Description
I created this resource as part of a narrative writing unit to combine reading and writing narratives. This mini-unit starts with an understanding task related to theme, subject, and motif and moves to analyzing and creating tasks. This mini-unit teaches students about theme and how to differentiate it from the subject of the work and motifs that may help explain the theme. “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara is the reading option for this mini-unit. Students also will investigate theme with an interactive reading and writing activity using Aesop’s Fables.

The second part of the setting mini-unit relates to mood and imagery. This mini-unit is an extension of their setting study, but it can be used independently for a standalone study of mood and imagery. This section does not require that students read “The Veldt.” Still, it uses a passage from the story to continue the study of setting by extending their analysis to mood and imagery.

*This unit is compatible with Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive and includes directions for each. Directions are included for saving your digital document.*
