My students struggled identifying theme when we read poems, so I made this activity! Use this engaging resource to practice identifying theme and providing text evidence to support the theme chosen. Students will analyze poems, short stories, and other passages for theme. Get your students up and moving in this fun activity! I love making lessons engaging and as game-like as possible!
For this activity, you will split your kids into 12 small groups (1-12). Students should start at the question number of the group they were assigned. I recommend that you run a timer so that student groups overlap as little as possible. However, you could allow students to work at their own pace around the room. Students will be directed to the next question based on their answer. If they end up at a question they have already been to, they will know their answer was not correct.
If you are a 6th grade teacher, this activity will be a challenge for your students. You will have to be prepared to adapt it to fit your needs. I only recommend doing this activity with 6th grade gifted and talented students.
If you teach 10th grade, you will be able to use this assignment with struggling students.
