This standards-based (both CCSS and TEKS) lesson study of the literary element of Central Theme will have your students learning about, discussing, and applying ideas throughout the course of five days.
There are five classroom-tested lesson plans that detail everything you will need to do, STEP-BY-STEP, to teach your students about theme in the plot of a story.
There are also graphic organizers for each day so that your students are able to apply their learning.
The five days culminates in a written paragraph identifying the central theme of a familiar story, using textual evidence in support of the theme. This culminating writing assignments asks the students to take what they learned about theme and apply it to writing a paragraph, which is something that is so important in these days of Common Core and high stakes testing. There is also a graphic organizer to help scaffold the writing for your students.
