One of the things I find most challenging as a U.S. history teacher is having my students make connections between units and between the past and the present. The tension between chronology and patterns is one I always have to contend with!
This led me to create this diagram, which reflects several of these thematic tensions in U.S. History. This can be used in different ways:
a) At the beginning of a unit, to point out the various themes at play.
b) At various points in the year, when connections need to be made between units
c) At the end of the year, for use with culminating projects.
