Are you curious about how people lived, say, in the last century?
This unit explores how different inventions have changed our lives.
You can test your visual and history skills when you play the A Card Match & Vocabulary Game. The Vocabulary Words will give you some clues. You can, also, think about how the items are alike and what their purposes are/were. Plan on doing a little invention research or you can play with some much older than you…...like a grandparent.
That game will help you connect the Past with the Present when sharing & writing what you learned in a Mini Info-Book entitled: Use the Game cards for illustration ideas. You might need to search the Web or the library for the “Beyond Earth” section.
When I was researching the activity, I was amazed that many Long Ago toys were not that different from today’s toys….well, some of them anyway. Think about what materials were available for making the toys. Ask some older - much older - people about the toys they played with when they were younger. You may need to use the Compare & Contrast Answer Sheet before filling in your Venn Diagram.
You can utilize this unit as:
- whole group instruction
- small group instruction
- cooperative groups
- center time activities
- partner sharing
- independent study
