Then and Now
Then and Now shows how one family changes over a period of time.
Photocopy the poster (page 4) for the students.
If possible, enlarge the page to 12” x 18” on the photocopy machine and photocopy onto cardstock or construction paper.
Complete a poster on your own family and go over it with the students.
Send the poster and a note about the project (see page 3) home with the students.
The students work with their families in creating their timelines. The students can use family photos (or copies of family photos) in their timelines. (If the student does not have access to family photos, allow the student to use drawings or pictures from magazines.) The students then write a bit about their family and/or their family’s history under each picture. The students can also use markers or crayons to decorate the page. (Some students and families are very creative and will do a large poster with glitter, fabric, buttons, etc.!)
Allow the students 1-2 weeks to complete this family project. The completed projects can be displayed in the classroom for Open House or Back to School Night.
