2nd graders worked independently to research a topic (transportation, schools, homes, or communication) using nonfiction texts. If you have access to Pebble Go!, it’s a great resource for young researchers! After students became an expert on their topic, they formed a group comprised of an expert from each of the other topics. Then students worked as a group of four to create a timeline to show communities changing over time.
This product includes a student research sheet with lines for young writers and a grading box with two objectives to be assessed by the teacher.
This activity is aligned with 2nd Grade Virginia Social Studies SOL 2.3 (identify and compare changes in community life over time in terms of buildings, jobs, transportation, and population) and Language Arts SOL 2.13a (use complete sentences).
