Read Across America Day is a nationwide celebration that takes place annually on Theodor Seuss Geisdel's birthday. This is the man who went by the pen name Dr. Seuss when writing children's books. Each year we celebrate his birthday in classrooms across the country on March 2nd. This Theodor Seuss Geisel Author Study is a great way to learn more about a famous children's author, while also celebrating a love of reading. Promote the love of learning in your upper elementary classroom this March by incorporating reading, writing, and math into your lessons.

WHAT DO YOU GET?

Biography about Theodor Seuss Geisel - Students choose the eight opinions to highlight or underline.

Writing Components
→ Write to the author - After reading the biography, students will write a letter to the famous children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel, who also went by the name Dr. Seuss.
→ Create a book list - Students will create a list of books they would like to read by this author.

Math Component
→ Multiplication & Division math puzzles - Let your students practice their basic 0-12 math facts with these fun 15 piece puzzles.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

This set of no prep printable worksheets is a GREAT way to let your upper elementary students participate in the fun-filled week the young students enjoy during the first week of March.

Your 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will have fun while also practicing the important skills of fact and opinion, writing a friendly letter, and basic math facts. Plus they get the joy of creating a reading list based on your suggestions and those of their peers! And the "READ" bookmark can be colored as an early or fast finisher activity.

The reading passage is 410 words long and describes much of Theodor Seuss Geisel's life. Yout get various print options for color and black & white. Plus you can choose whether students highlight or underline their answers.

The write to the author component has six printing options, while the book list has five.

You also get two math puzzles - one for division and multiplication, with facts 0-12 included. You can choose from the one you cut out yourself OR give the students the "pre-cut" option to make it a no prep activity.

An answer key is provided for the reading and math components. The writing pieces are more open ended.

Finally, you also get a "READ" bookmark to keep the love of learning growing in your third, fourth, and fifth graders all year long. Print on cardstock and let your students decorate them. If you really want them to last a long time, laminate them as well.
