Theodor Seuss Geisel Close Reads Pack

I am so excited about this new line of products! I wanted to make it easy for you to integrate reading with the content areas, so I have made these Close Read packs. You can use these packs as practice during whole group or small group, for assessment purposes, or even as homework!

Have multiple reading levels in your classroom? This pack includes informational text written on a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade level so you can easily differentiate for your students!

Want to try before you buy? Check out my Close Reads Pack: American Revolutionary War Heroes- 3rd Grade SAMPLER. This sampler includes the lesson on Abigail Adams. This full product has the same material for Theodor Seuss Geisel PLUS 4 puzzles and a short research project.

Time is limited, but if you can teach reading during your social studies or science time, or social studies or science during your reading time, you will be able to be more thorough and give students additional practice on those important skills. No more trying to cram it all in!

Celebrating his birthday? Love reading his books? Want your students to learn more about who he was? Then this pack is for you! I have written 3 original informational texts about Theodor Seuss Geisel. One passage is written in the 3rd grade band, one in the 4th grade band, and one in the 5th grade band. Each text comes with 2 pages of Close Read questions and 2 answer keys.Texts
Each text has lines in the margin for students to record the main idea and evidence of answers.

Each text is labeled with the Lexile level and Fountas & Pinnell level so you can easily select appropriate texts for your purposes. I have written the passages so that you can use different grade level packs within your classroom to differentiate for your students. The passages in the different grade level bands will be similar enough so that all your students can be reading about the same topic, but the reading levels will fit your students' needs!

Close Read Question Pages
The first page of Close Read questions contains a spiral review of various grade level CCSS. The second page of Close Read questions focuses on one grade level CCSS and offers targeted practice. I have included 2 options for each of the question pages. One option has each question labeled with the grade specific standard and the other option does not. Why? Because if you do not teach 3rd grade you most likely do not want 3rd grade CCSS labeled on the page. You can choose which one works best for you!

The second page of questions offers focused practice and include a graphic organizer for students to organize their thoughts which will help them answer the last question which is a constructed response.

All of the questions on the first and second pages are constructed response that require students to provide evidence and/or explain their thinking. Perfect for getting your students to dig deeper into text!

You can use this pack about Theodor Seuss Geisel to differentiate based on your individual students. Because the passages are similar between the grade levels, varying only on the Lexile level, the Close Read questions between the grade level packs will also be similar. The questions are written to correlate with a specific grade level's standards so the main difference between the Close Read questions in the grade level packs is the level of difficulty. These packs make it easy for all your students to be reading and answering questions about the same topic on their individual level!

Puzzles and Culminating Project
I have included 4 puzzles and 1 short research project that can be given to early finishers, or all students can complete them just for fun. I have included a word search, finding smaller words within a longer word, ABC's list, and a word unscramble. All puzzles are related to Theodor Seuss Geisel. The short research project for students to further learn about his life.
