Theodor Seuss Geisel : Passage and Activity for INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS - Get to know this famous author......This pack includes a short close reading passage about the famous author. It is a high interest and filled with fun facts, such as what a pen name is, how he became known as Dr. Seuss even though he doesn't have a doctorate degree, his first and last children's books published, and lots more. It is a positive passage and helps share some of his accomplishments.

Please click on the preview above to get a better idea of what is included.

**** See below that I have submitted this passage to attorneys representing Seuss Enterprises and received approval that this pack does not infringe on any trademarks. ****

Did you know that Dr. Seuss's birthday is March 2nd? That's also the day designated by the National Education Association to celebrate Read Across America. It's a perfect day to include this activity into your lesson plans.

Although I included lots of facts, there are many others you could talk about that I did not include, such as bringing in additional facts about his political cartoons during war time.

IMPORTANT---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular passage is formatted for interactive notebooks. It is the exact same passage and similar questions just formatted differently from the full page version.

If you would like to purchase the one page passage with 9 text-based questions that go along with the passage, click HERE. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.

This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth grade readers. Please use your best judgement.

What's included?

In addition to doing this activity as a whole group reading lesson, you could also have students do it during a literacy center. Feel free to use it in your classroom however you would like.

In this passage, the trademarked names Dr. Seuss and Read Across America are used in commentary (explanation), as they could not otherwise be described if the names were not used. No logos or trademarked images have been used, only a textual reference. Use of the names does not imply sponsorship or endorsement, as their use falls under nominative fair use. There is no capitalization being made on "consumer confusion", as there is no claim being made to the names, they are simply included to tell about the history and facts surrounding the topic. I am simply reporting about someone and not claiming to be someone or to represent the companies. The names are a point of reference and are not intended to claim ownership of the name. The only way to write an informational/biography article about Theodor Seuss Geisel and his life is to include the use of those names. To the best of my knowledge, the facts included are accurate, and of course this is through my own research. I hope you have fun reading about his exciting life. For questions, feel free to contact me.

I have a statement saying this passage and graphics do not infringe on the trademark mentioned above. For questions, feel free to contact me.
