Theodore Roosevelt, Rough Riders, & Military Service: 3 Activities for Teddy!
In this engaging resource, you receive THREE activities to teach the rise of Theodore Roosevelt, his role in the Rough Riders, how his military service was used to catapult his political career, and how military service has been viewed by past (and current) presidents!
In the first activity, students read a 1-page biography on the life of Theodore Roosevelt. Students answer analytical questions regarding Roosevelt's life as a child, his role in the Civil Service Commission, assistant secretary of the U.S. Navy, the Rough Riders, and his political career as a Vice President and eventual President of the United States. In the second activity, students analyze five primary sources that range from the Rough Rider victory after the Battle of San Juan Hill (In the Spanish-American War) to his 1904 presidential run to learn how military experience was crucial to his campaign. Finally, students complete a very engaging activity where students investigate 10 U.S. Presidents to uncover the five who did not serve, and showcase the five ways the others did!
