Two historical rebus stories! Practice standardized quizzes! Writing prompts! and more. Enjoy learning how a Christmas tree found its way into President Theodore Roosevelt's White House during his second Christmas in office. Then learn what President Andrew Jackson did to host the first snowball fight in the White House at Christmas. These are perfect historical READ-and-WRITE rebus stories for the holiday season.

The word pictures and text combination in the rebus help students find out more about Theodore Roosevelt’s Christmas tree . After all, not all students will realize that a lot of people used to celebrate Christmas without putting up Christmas trees. And they will be introduced to 8-year-old Archie Roosevelt, one of Theodore Roosevelt’s sons. Then they can read about and a snowball fight held in the White House.

Students can use a writing prompt to explore this topic better. Then in the bonus materials, students can cut out word pictures and write their own rebus!

The first historical fiction rebus allows students to learn more about life at the White House in 1902. The second is a rebus about a story from 1834.
