PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This 150+ page packet is based off of the book "There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow" by Lucille Colandro. Each literacy center aligns to Kindergarten Common Core State Standards; however, please note that some of the activities are enrichment for kindergarten and can be used for first grade.

*Note: Some of these centers are very similar to the centers from my literacy centers "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie"

-Vocabulary Cards

-Sequencing: After or while reading the story, students will put the items inside the cold lady's "mouth" to show what she is/has swallowing/swallowed {2 versions} {RLK.2}

-Sequencing 1st to Last: Students will put the cards in order of which the events occurred and record on the recording sheet. {3 versions} {RLK.2}

-"Clap it" Syllable Segmenting: Students will pull a picture card, clap the syllables heard, and record {3 versions to differentiate} {RFK.2b}

-"Push it" Syllable Segmenting: Students will pull a picture card, push a chip/counter up for each syllable heard, and record {RFK.2b}

-Syllable Blending: Students will put picture cards together (like a puzzle) to determine how many syllables are in each word. (visualization cards also included for differentiation) {RFK.2b}

-Beginning sounds: Students will pull a card, say the word, and determine what beginning sound they heard. {There are differentiated recording sheets to meet the needs of your students--some including blends and digraphs} {RFK.2d}

-Ending Sounds: Students will pull a card, say the word, and determine what ending sound they heard. {There are differentiated recording sheets to meet the needs of your students--some including blends and digraphs} {RFK.2d}

-Rhyming Puzzles: Students will put the puzzle together to match the two rhyming words. They can then record on the differentiated recording sheets. {RFK.2a & 2c}

-Making Words: Snowman: There are two different versions for this. Letters are included (glitter letters and scrabble letters). To incorporate addition and math (as an enrichment and integration of math) you can have students add the letters of the new word they made and record on the recording sheet.

-Verbs or Nouns Sort--Students will pull a picture card and decide if the word is a verb or a noun (all words from the book). They can then record on the differentiated recording sheets {LK.1b}

-ABC Order--Students will put words from the story in ABC order and then record on a recording sheet. Enrichment: Students can choose 2 words to write in a sentence.

-Snowy Adjectives: These are 3 worksheets. Students will write 5 adjectives to describe snowflake, snowball, and the cold lady.

-Story Map: Students will fill out the story map based on the story {RLK.3}

-Reading Response Sheets (2 versions): Draw a picture of your favorite part OR draw a picture of your favorite part and write about it. {RLK.10}

-Sequencing Response Sheet: Students can write what happened in the story using transitional words (first, then, next, last).
