There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat: Book Companion is designed to accompany Lucille Colandro’s book! It has a variety of activities that support speech and language skills this Halloween season!
Retelling: Cut and laminate Granny’s Head. Cut and laminate object cards. Students can take turns holding granny. Students retell the story as they feed granny the objects.
Sequencing: Cut and laminate story sequence map. Cut out story sequencing cards. Students retell the story by placing the object on the correct tile
Comprehension Questions: Students answer WH ?s based on the book
Granny says: Students draw a card and follow the direction. If followed correctly they get to keep the card, if not they have to feed the card to granny! Student with the most cards wins!
Bingo: There was an old lady who swallowed a rhyme! Read the Bingo Prompt, “find a word that rhymes with….” Student finds a matching rhyming word on their bingo board. Students discuss the rhyming words they find. 3 different boards included! Print as many as needed.
Put a Goblin on it!: Print and laminate a ghost and a set of goblins for each student. Students read the prepositions on the goblins and place them around the ghost in the correct locations. (or students can share materials!)
Color, Cut, Glue Activities: Directions located on worksheets. Articulation (/t, d/) and Grammar Sheets (irregular plurals and irregular past tense). Can be used in the speech room or as homework! No color ink needed!
