There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick Speech and Language Companion

This book companion has been designed to support speech and language skills. It features 8 different activities!

Retelling: Students will have a blast feeding Granny! Simply cut and laminate Granny’s head and the object cards for durability. Students take turns retelling the story as they feed Granny all of the objects she swallowed.

Sequencing: Print and laminate sequencing map. Students put all of the story’s events in order by placing the objects on the correct tile.

Comprehension: Students answer comprehension questions using these fun cards inspired by the book!

Granny says…: This card game features temporal directions. Students draw a card and follow the direction. If done correctly, they get to keep the card. If they are incorrect they have to feed their card to Granny! (Use Granny’s head from the retelling activity)

Bingo: There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rhyme! Read the bingo prompts, “find a word that rhymes with…” Students find matching rhyming words on their bingo board then discuss the rhymes! 3 different boards included, print as many as needed. Requires bingo chips

Put a Bow on It: Print and laminate the basket and bows for durability. Students read the prepositions on the bow (over, under, in, etc) and place them on the correct location on the basket.

Articulation: No prep! Color, cut, and glue activities for /ch/ and /j/. 2 sheets focus on /ch/ and 2 sheets focus on /j/. Students color everything on the page, cut out their words, and then glue them onto the picture.

Grammar: No prep! Color, cut, glue activities for irregular past tense and irregular plurals
