Description

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover is a speech and language companion Pack for to use with the story by Lucille Colandro. This is a 32 page companion pack that may be used by SLPs as well as special education teachers to target matching, requesting, story comprehension, answering questions, following directions, categorizing, naming attributes, similarities and difference, sorting, and includes a game board which may be used to target a variety of language goals including social skills and articulation.

Activity Contents

Page 4-5: St. Patrick’s Day Vocabulary: Can be used to discuss vocabulary or print two copies and use as a matching activity or memory game.

Page 6-10: Word Wall pictures/vocabulary associated with the story.

Page 11-14: Cut and paste sequencing pages: Two separate sequencing pages one in color and one in black and white. Black and white can also be used for following directions (e.g. color the rose red) if your students are able to color.

Page 15-16: St. Patrick’s Day vocabulary matching in color.

Page 17-18: Pictures to accompany story: Can be used for matching: Cut out pictures, laminate, Velcro on corresponding pages in book. Can also be used for active participation while reading story. Cut out pictures and glue them onto Popsicle sticks. Students can hold up their picture when you read that section of the story. An alternative is to cut out all the pictures and laminate them. Glue the old lady onto a paper bag and have students put the picture of the item she ate into the bag as the store is read.

Page 19: St. Patrick’s Day open ended game board: Can be used with attribute cards, same/different cards, or blank game cards provided at end of packet.

Page 20-24: Attribute cards: Includes 20 nouns cards related to the story or St. Patrick’s Day and 7 game cards (i.e. go back two spaces or go ahead one space). Students draw a card and list attributes for given picture.

Page 25-28: Same/different cards: Include 18 pairs of same/different cards (e.g. Rainbow and clouds) and 6 game cards (i.e. go back two spaces or go ahead one space). Students draw a card and state how items are the same or different.

Page 29-30: Blank game cards: Can be used in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day game board to target a variety of skills include articulation, vocabulary, pronouns, parts of speech, etc.

Page 31: Communication board: Great for nonverbal students or those who are expanding vocabulary and length of utterances.
