Students compile a scrapbook to show understanding of major themes, events, and characters in There Will Be Bears by Ryan Gebhart. This packet includes prompts for components of the scrapbook as well as a rubric for easy grading. All students complete at least four mini-projects (two given, two choice), activating multiple intelligences and hitting different standards of Common Core. You can differentiate by changing length requirements or asking students to complete extra mini-projects.
Character Sketch – All students create a portrait of a character and add “call-outs” or captions that provide important details about the character’s likes, dislikes, and goals in the novel.
Personal Narrative – In Gebhart’s style (first person, present tense, dialogue-focused scenes), students write a scene from their life in which they learned an important lesson.
3. One of the following:
Scene Rewrite from another character’s perspective
Newspaper Interview with Tyson
Backstory – How Sandy lost her cub
4. One of the following:
Brochure/Pamphlet for a National Park
Poster – How to Survive a ______ Attack
You also get:
